Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast)

Once a economical marvel of Africa and producer of over 75% of all cocoa in the world, Cote d’Ivoire lost a lot in the last decade of coup d’etats, civil war and massive failure of leadership. But since 2012 it has been again safe to travel to the country. And the population seems totally relaxed about what is currently happening and look forward for a better future.

I originally had plans to visit the capital city of Yamoussoukro, but the charms of the former capital of Grand-Bassam magnetised me, so instead I spent an extra day there.

Abidjan, the country’s largest city, dazzles with its glimmering skyscrapers, unlike any others on the African continent. It is chic, busy and diversified. And its modern St Paul’s Cathedral is amongst the most striking churches in the world.
