Gabon. Difficult

Gabon is not well advertised as a tourist destination, despite boasting a large number of fabulous national parks, packed with elephants and apes, including the incredible lowland gorillas. I gave it three stars, but this is for the potential. I would normally give it two stars, based on what I saw in the country.

I started in Libreville on a late flight from Douala in Cameroon. The vicinity of the Gabonese capital was rather good for beachlife. The best was the Pointe-Denis but the beaches in Libreville were not too bad and were more animated than the very relaxing and empty ones on Pointe-Denis.

I did not manage to visit any of the national parks, but I was lucky enough to see a giant leatherback sea turtle laying eggs on the beaches at night. It was electrifying!
