Iceland. Ice-hot.

I flew up to Iceland to see an annular eclipse of the sun. It was fascinating to take off in London at sunset, then travel watching it set, set, set with no end, and then land in Keflavik at sunset. The sunset on the iceland was about four hours before the eclipse. The cloud covered the sky. It was raining and I eventually did not see the eclipse. I chased cloudless sky in vain with a bus full of other hopeful eclipse watchers... Iceland is expensive. The air is crisp and incredibly clear. Objects appear closer than they actually are.

It was not the geysers, waterfalls or glaciers that made the greatest impression on me. It was the gap between the American and European tectonic plates that can be visited. I found it mind boggling that such a gap can actually be seen on the surface like that.
