Libya. Inconvenient.

This is what I wrote in 2005: “The secretive state of Libya is northern Africa’s dark horse of tourism. The sites from the ancient Roman and Greek times are world’s best preserved. Travelling is relatively easy as infrastructure is great and people, particularly the young generation, are exceptionally friendly. Deeper in the country, there are ancient Berber cities and, of course, the great Sahara Desert.”

Yet since 20 October 2011, the situation is dramatically different. There is no more dictatorship. The country is under transformation following eight months of civil war. Libya may quickly stop being secretive and inconvenient to get to.
