Transnistria

The country that does not exist, Transnistria, is not a friendly place to tourists. At the border in Bonder, the officers were adamant that I should not reach Tiraspol, the capital city. A few weeks before my arrival, a couple of foreigners, I think one of them British, were captured by Transnistria’s authorities under the suspicion of espionage. I guess, the guy who was allowing me into the country, did not want to be responsible for another spy at large. Anyway, it sounded like a foreigner in Transnistria required a guide. Just like in North Korea.

There was even less to see in Transnistria than in Moldova proper.
