Technically it is occupied by the English. But this has been the case for so long that effectively no-one really remembers how this happened. Although it is a bit weird that the UK extends to this north-east corner of Ireland.


Northern Ireland, as this area in known, has been a trouble maker for the UK and itself. Particularly in the 1970s when the terrorist groups under the IRA banner, regularly bombed sites in the UK and Belfast was a relatively dangerous area. To this day, occasionally a conflict erupts between the Catholic and Protestant populations. One of the taxi drivers confirmed that.


I only went to Belfast. It is a fine city, compact and easy to walk around. There are many new buildings springing up in the gaps between the old ones, and around the old harbour and the central station.
